Leather goods export from Bangladesh rise by 20pc in 2008

Bangladesh exported leather goods and footwear worth US$195.24 million in 2008, registering a 20 per cent growth over the exports in 2007, according to the Leathergoods and Footwear Manufacturers and Exporters’ Association of Bangladesh.
Of the export proceeds in 2008, footwear accounted for US$183.54 million and leather goods US$11.7 million. In 2007, the sector earned $162.73 million from exports, with footwear accounting for US$152.77 million and leather goods US$9.96 million.
A Chinese company will set up a shoe accessories manufacturing industry in the Karnaphuli Export Processing Zone (extension area) with an investment of US$24.21million.
About 600 industrial units supplying textile and garment machinery from 30 countries will showcase their products at the 6th Dhaka International Textile and Garments Machinery Exhibition which will be held from February 8, 2009, at the Bangladesh capital, Dhaka.
